Mashable Announces Louise Roug as its Global News Editor
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 14, 2014 -- Mashable, the leading media company for the Connected Generation and the voice of digital culture, announced today that it has hired Louise Roug as its first Global News Editor, to oversee its coverage of foreign and domestic U.S news.
From the ongoing crisis in Ukraine to the unending hunt for Flight 370 to the kidnapped schoolgirls in Nigeria, to Wikileaks and Edward Snowden, global news coverage is becoming a bigger and ever-more important focus of Mashable’s news report. In the role of Global News Editor, Roug will expand Mashable’s voice and reporting on big global issues of the day.

Prior to joining Mashable, Roug was the foreign editor for Newsweek and The Daily Beast from 2010 to 2013. In this role, she led international news coverage and oversaw breaking news teams on major stories such as the Arab Spring, the Japanese tsunami and the phone hacking scandal in the U.K. Previously, she was also a writer and lecturer on U.S. foreign policy and the Middle East, while writing “What Doesn’t Kill You,” a non-fiction book about Iraq published in Europe in September 2010.
Roug began her career at the The Los Angeles Times, where from 1999 to 2008, she covered California news, the Iraq War and the 2008 presidential campaign.
In 2007, Roug was the recipient of the Hal Boyle Award from the Overseas Press Club and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in International Reporting for reporting on the turmoil in Baghdad.
Roug holds an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University and a B.A. in Communications and Sociology from the University of London.
