Massachusetts Criminal Defense Attorney First to Receive DUID Certification
Lowell, Massachusetts (PRWEB) March 14, 2014 -- After 80 hours of intense training, OUI attorney Gregory Oberhauser has achieved what just nine other attorneys across the country has – DUID certification. Issued by the American Chemical Society, Oberhauser attended the “Forensic Principals of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs training program at Axion Analytical Labs in Chicago, making him one of the few with the knowledge police departments across the country have.
Intense Training
The extensive course included material on Forensic Chromatography, Forensic Drug Analysis, Pharmacology, and more. With industry pioneers like gas chromatography godfather Harold M. McNair, forensic science consultant Dr. Jimmie L. Valentine, and expert witness Heather Harris, the course was designed for attorneys to learn more about how to challenge complex cases in a courtroom.
It was hosted by Attorneys Justin McShane of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Josh Lee of Vinita, Oklahoma. The take-aways were nothing short of stunning. Oberhauser learned how to analyze blood for drugs and alcohol with gas chromatography, the scientific methodologies used to test drugs in a pre-consumptive form through solid drug analysis, and how to analyze biological fluids for drugs. As the only DUID-certified attorney in the state of Massachusetts, he now has the scientific knowledge and hands-on experience needed to construct stronger defenses for OUI defendants.
Taking the Right Steps
As arrests for driving under the influence continue to skyrocket across the country, it’s clear attorneys everywhere need additional training to keep overreaching prosecutions in check.
Oberhauser said, “Attorneys have to start thinking like scientists in order to defend our clients in DUID cases because the government will be using forensic science to attempt to convict our clients. The best defense will be the one devised by one who is well-trained in these forensic methodologies. ”
Oberhauser is also certified in Field Sobriety Testing, the roadside tests usually given by police officers to anyone suspected of driving under the influence, and Breathalyzer Testing, the preliminary breath testing used by law enforcement. He is also one of the few Massachusetts attorneys who has completed the same Drug Recognition Expert training given to law enforcement DREs and police officers.
