Massive Storm Hits the UK for the Festive Period
(PRWEB UK) 8 January 2014 -- The UK is bracing itself for massive storms over the festive period, which could see wind gusts of up to 90mph in some regions.
Unusually for this time of the year, temperatures have been a lot higher in the UK but we have seen more winds than ever and little frost or snow. The storms have already led to two deaths in the week leading up to Christmas Day and many have experienced damage to their homes.
The storms have also caused travel disruption, with many trains being suspended or completely cancelled. Network Rail lines have been affected and staff have asked customers to stay patient during these difficult periods.
At a time when we are all rushing around last minute shopping or trying to reach our loved ones, it is important to be diligent and take care of ourselves as well as those around us.
A spokesperson for Accident Advice Helpline spoke about the latest storms saying, “it is a time of year when we tend to pay less attention in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the festive period and this is when accidents can easily happen.
The unprecedented weather makes this time of year even more dangerous as people are concerned with getting to their destination quickly to avoid the storms.” The spokesperson went on to advise, “pedestrians need to take steps to slow down and try not to rush. Drivers should take extra care and only travel when absolutely necessary.”
Although it is important to reduce risk of accidents, these still happen and if you were injured in an accident which was not your fault, you may be entitled to make a compensation claim.
