Masterdisk Moves to Peekskill, Renews Focus On High Quality Mastering
Peekskill, NY (PRWEB) September 22, 2015 -- World-renowned audio mastering house Masterdisk today announced its move to Peekskill, New York, and a renewed focus on high quality service to both major label and independent artists around the world.
Masterdisk was founded in 1973 as a spin-off of the recording, editing and mastering arm of Mercury Records. The fabled mastering house is now under the direction of owner and chief engineer, Scott Hull, a former protege of grammy award winning legend Bob Ludwig.
Like Ludwig before him, Hull recently reached a point where the relentless pulse of New York City was no longer a necessary component in the growth of his career. It was then that he decided to let technology handle the commute, opting instead for the cultural renaissance of the Hudson Valley, an area he describes as “Woodstock meets Manhattan.”
“I’m lucky enough to have a diverse and loyal group of clients who have followed me throughout my career,” says Hull. “The location of my studio isn’t important to them. What they care about most is ending up with the best possible version of their music.”
With a music industry in flux and the economy on a rollercoaster, Scott made an important decision to reimagine Masterdisk as a smaller, more nimble boutique brand. By keeping overhead low—utilizing technology to work smarter, not harder—Masterdisk can pass the savings on to a generation of independent artists making their way in the world without the benefit of multi-million dollar recording contracts.
Of course, Hull and Masterdisk still attract many of the industry’s legends. The latest projects from the likes of Sting, Dave Matthews, Steely Dan’s Donald Fagan, and avant-garde composer John Zorn appear regularly on Scott’s speakers, as well as Masterdisk’s fabled Neumann vinyl lathe, one of the few such specimens in the world.
“Working with Bob Ludwig, I learned the art of mastering for vinyl while working on some of the most famous records in music history,” Hull remembers. “The Police, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones—I had the privilege of an education few people have access to. My mission now is to bring that same level of world-class quality to the records I produce today.”
Masterdisk offers professional audio mastering services for vinyl records and digital audio including M4iT (Mastered For iTunes). Clients can opt to attend their mastering sessions with Scott Hull, or electronically transfer their music files from anywhere in the world, often receiving the finished product the same day.
