SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 26, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- WHAT: LA. Artist/Activist Ed Massey -- who has created and produced some of the largest public art projects in L.A. and the U.S. -- will be on hand to discuss and showcase 3 sample full-scale and functional art tents of the 5,000 planned that will be distributed to the homeless in LA -- changing city views -- if the homelessness situation does not dramatically improve in the next 12 - 15 months. LA will become a giant public artwork that visually transforms the cityscape, including business districts, public spaces, and neighborhoods with or near proximity to the homeless from Malibu, Santa Monica, Brentwood, and Bel Air to Holmby Hills, West Hollywood, and DTLA, among other areas. This Friday morning will be a preview of the tents and a peek at new citywide vistas which will make LA the vibrant tent capital of the world.
WHY: Issue #1 for LA's public is homelessness, but the public response to the homeless epidemic continues to be hesitant and mass mobilization unrealized. If the public in its responses to the homeless catastrophe continues to demonstrate that the trade-offs of addressing homelessness on a mass level may be too steep or hesitates in confronting the issue as a national disaster with mass mobilization characteristic of that designation, Massey will transform the streets of LA in response to the monumental public indecision, inaction and failure spanning years vis-a-vis- the homeless. The message: if we are not going to act full-force on the solutions, then let's at least visually improve the sights of urban homeless tents and tent encampments for the sake of the rest of the public and visitors to the city.
WHEN: This Friday, February 28, 7a - 10a -- Massey will be available to discuss the initiative and to showcase the prototype art street tents.
WHERE: Next to 7' tall homeless sculpture at 2600 Wilshire Blvd, Santa Monica, on the corner of 26th and Wilshire.
