MEDIA ADVISORY: LINC Housing Starts Construction of 100 New Apartments in Los Angeles County for Formerly Homeless Households and Low-Income Families
LOS ANGELES (PRWEB) January 29, 2019 -- When:
Wednesday, Jan. 30 - 3:30 p.m.
Where:
Future site of Springhaven
1854 East 118th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90059
What:
The community, Los Angeles County officials, LINC Housing and other partners will gather to celebrate the start of construction of Springhaven, a 100-unit affordable housing community for people who have experienced homelessness and low-income families.
Fifty apartments are for individuals and families that have been homeless. Additional units will serve families earning up to 60% of area median income. The new development is part of LINC Housing’s initiative to integrate affordable housing with health resources and other services for stronger neighborhoods.
Springhaven will feature 50 one-bedroom, 24 two-bedroom and 26 three-bedroom homes. Community areas will include multi-purpose spaces to house a variety of resident programs as well as private meeting rooms for service providers and case managers. Additional amenities will include an exercise room, container garden program, on-site laundry facilities, and secure long-term bicycle parking. Partnerships with the Los Angeles County of Department Health Services and The People Concern will allow LINC to serve the 50 formerly homeless households with intensive case management services, while all future residents will have access to life-enhancing services through LINC Cares. Drew Child Development Corporation will serve as an onsite partner to provide quality childcare for the community.
The property is within a quarter-mile of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, Augustus Hawkins Mental Health Center, several public schools, and the Willowbrook/Rosa Parks Metro Station. Healthy building features and multi-faceted services will support resident health and wellbeing.
Springhaven, LINC's second apartment community in the Willowbrook neighborhood, has strong support from Los Angeles County and the community. As homelessness remains a key concern, leaders in this tight-knit community want to work together with the public and private sectors to make positive changes in the neighborhood. The $52-million development is due to be completed in late 2020.
