Mediaplanet and Hockey Player Bryan Bickell Team Up for Multiple Sclerosis Awareness
Multiple sclerosis may affect more than 1 million Americans. But there are new advances in how it's treated, leading to a great quality of life for those afflicted.
NEW YORK, March 21, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- For Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, Mediaplanet today announces the launch of its newest campaign, "Multiple Sclerosis Awareness." The digital and print campaign, available online and in USA TODAY, advocates for an increased emphasis on resources, support and awareness for the Multiple Sclerosis community, as well as those battling other autoimmune diseases.
Multiple Sclerosis affects more than 1 million people in the United States, with approximately 200 new people being diagnosed every week. For those battling the disease, life can change dramatically. Simple things become much more difficult: retrieving a dropped item, keeping balanced while walking, turning lights on and off, opening doors and navigate the world inside their home our out in the world.
That's something that Bryan Bickell understands. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis while playing in the National Hockey League, after thinking he was suffering from vertigo or a tooth infection. He's helping people with the help of his passion: pit bulls.
The campaign features important information for anyone recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Scott Bogren, the Executive Director at the Community Transportation Association of America, explains that transportation could be a major problem for someone diagnosed with MS, and gives advice on how to get free transit to and from doctors' appointments. June Halper, the CEO of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers, explains how multiple sclerosis treatments have evolved in a short period of time. And there's the inspiring story of Sean Giblin, who was diagnosed with MS as a teen, and now counsels teens afflicted with the disease.
The print component of "Multiple Sclerosis Awareness" is distributed within today's edition of USA Today in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Washington DC/Baltimore, Chicago, Seattle and Boston, with a circulation of approximately 250,000 copies and an estimated readership of 750,000. In addition, it will be distributed at several industry-focused conferences, including the Community Transportation Association of America Expo in Palm Springs, California, and the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers Annual Meeting in Seattle. The digital component is distributed nationally, through a vast social media strategy, and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets.
