Mediaplanet and Actor Courtney Vance Address the Growing Need for Affordable Resources for K-12 Students
Mediaplanet's Educational Resources Campaign, found within USA TODAY and online, sheds light on the need for basic resources for students and teachers in schools.
NEW YORK, Dec. 13, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As students, teachers and parents prepare to go back to school, Mediaplanet today announces the launch of the latest edition of its "Educational Resources Campaign." This campaign will address the basic yet crucial resources that students need to succeed and grow in the classroom right in time for the beginning of this 2018-19 school year. The campaign will advocate for available and accessible resources for both students and teachers.
55 million K-12 students will return to school this fall, but 44 million of these students and their families feel the financial stress and burden of purchasing the items they need to go back to school. On average, parents spend $500 every year for their children on items such as clothes and school supplies. Teachers also feel the burden of the school year, spending an average of $700 dollars out of pocket to supply their classrooms when schools cannot. Many students return to school empty-handed, which greatly inhibits their confidence in the classroom. Although school supplies, literacy tools and learning resources can improve student's confidence and academic success, there is still a large disparity of these assets across the nation for schools that need them the most.
The print component of "Educational Resources" is distributed within today's edition of USA Today in the New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Florida and Atlanta markets, with a circulation of approximately 250,000 copies and an estimated readership of 750,000. The digital component is distributed nationally, through a vast social media strategy, and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets. This campaign features award-winning actor Courtney Vance, speaking out on the importance of community resources and mentors for children, from his experience as an alumnus of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Detailing the positive influence the organization and its members had on his life and career, Vance stresses why it remains relevant to kids today. "Life is about people who help you," Vance says. "Everyone needs people to help them. You cannot make it by yourself."
This campaign was made possible with the support of the National PTA, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the National Girls Collaborative, the National Association for Music Educators, STEMconnector, the National Association of School Administrators, DonorsChoose and the Kids in Need Foundation.
