ALPHARETTA, Ga., June 6, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The annual report by MedReps (http://www.medreps.com/), a job board for medical sales representatives, found the average medical sales rep total compensation has increased 4.8 percent since last year's findings. This is the biggest single-year increase since the survey's inception in 2011.
The 2019 Salary Survey found biotech sales professionals to be the top-earners in medical sales with an average total income of $177,243. The survey analyzed salary data by product classification, job title, company size, and other influential factors.
"The healthcare industry continues to expand, and medical sales salaries are reflecting that growth," said Karyn Mullins, President at MedReps. "The survey shows money is not the only factor sales professionals care about, and top companies recognize the importance of offering work-life balance and flexibility to their employees."
Notable findings from MedReps' 2019 Medical Sales Salary Report include the following:
- Medical sales reps in their 40s earn the most. Respondents in their 40s earn more than any other age group, regardless of experience.
- Men in medical sales still out-earn women. While women in pharma are approaching income parity with men, female professionals working in other product segments report significantly lower incomes than men.
- The OR is where the money is. Medical sales professionals who spend time working in the OR earn 11 percent more than those who don't.
- Travel has its rewards. Medical sales professionals who travel 50 percent of the time earn the highest incomes.
