Medical Doctor Reflects on Five Decades of Healthcare, Calls for Immediate Action to Prevent Industry’s Collapse in New Book
TAMPA, Fla. (PRWEB) April 22, 2019 -- Experienced physician Lindsay L. Pratt, M.D., has released his compelling analysis of the healthcare industry’s evolution over the past half century that explores how the introduction of Medicare and Medicaid during the 1960s forever changed the trajectory of medical care in the U.S. and implores readers to rethink both the Affordable Care Act and the concept of a single-payer delivery system.
In “Our Healthcare Delivery System is About to Collapse: Wake Up America!”, Dr. Pratt taps into his extensive career as a physician and deep knowledge of healthcare history and predicts the nation’s framework for patient care will crumble by 2025 as costs become prohibitive and physician numbers dwindle. Dr. Pratt’s book provides a much-needed wake-up call to the public and proposes potential solutions to get the nation back to its roots of patient-focused care and back on track.
“I wrote this book out of desperation,” Dr. Pratt said. “I am a 92-year-old retired physician, and I have had the opportunity to practice medicine and surgery prior to and after the 1960s. And in the last 50 years, I’ve watched ‘free’ health insurance programs like Medicare and Medicaid change the practice of medicine into a politicized and insurance-driven business system. I believe that this absolutely must be stopped, and I hope my book can help others understand why.”
Dr. Pratt proposes that Medicaid should be replaced with state-sponsored health maintenance organizations (HMOs) for patients unable to pay for their medical services, and he likened these programs to the city, county and local free healthcare facilities he worked in for about 20 years prior to 1970, when Medicare and Medicaid shuttered them. Ultimately, Dr. Pratt says, those who are purchasing health insurance has only benefitted the companies providing the insurance in the first place – not themselves.
Illustrating for readers why healthcare’s costs have increased more rapidly than the rate of inflation, “Our Healthcare Delivery System is About to Collapse” presents important answers to hot-button healthcare issues that must urgently be addressed before medical services are out of reach for all Americans, particularly individuals who are reaching retirement age and need quality, low-cost healthcare the most.
