MEDICC Hosts Reception for U.S. Students Attending Cuba's Latin American Medical School
Oakland, CA (PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- What: Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba (MEDICC) will host a reception for U.S. students attending Havana’s Latin American Medical School, the world’s largest medical school, on full scholarship to become physicians for underserved U.S. communities.

Why: Cuba’s Latin American Medical School (ELAM) offers full scholarships to students around the world who promise to practice in underserved communities upon graduation. The world’s largest medical school, ELAM, will pass the milestone of graduating 20,000 doctors from the world’s poorest countries and communities this year. Since 2001, students from the United States have been admitted to this program, with nearly 200 current students and graduates. MEDICC provides support programs to speed their transition to the U.S. medical system, including summer clinical rotations in the U.S. The reception will include current U.S. students whom MEDICC has placed in summer observerships at medical facilities located in the Bay Area including: Alameda County Medical Center, La Clinica de La Raza, and Kaiser Permanente Fremont and Hayward.
