MedStar Health Partners with Montgomery Hospice, Inc. to Provide Inpatient Services, Palliative Care at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center
Collaboration provides compassionate and comprehensive hospital-based hospice care delivered by a multidisciplinary, culturally competent team of experts
OLNEY, Md., November 11, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- MedStar Health, today announced a new partnership with Montgomery Hospice, Inc. to integrate and expand advanced care services at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. The expanded inpatient services provide individuals with compassionate, personalized end-of-life or palliative care for those with life-limiting illnesses, whose symptoms require short-term intensive nursing and medical care.
The hospital-based program combines highly skilled, culturally competent palliative care professionals with an interdisciplinary team of specialty physicians and healthcare providers - all focused on improving and maintaining the quality of life of patients and their loved ones. Families and individuals who qualify for this level of inpatient care receive pain and symptom management, therapeutic support, and assistance in achieving comfort to return home. The care is intended to be short-term to address the medical crisis.

The new partnership with Montgomery Hospice, Inc. enhances the hospital's current inpatient hospice and palliative care in collaboration with JSSA, a community based social wellness agency. In October 2019, MedStar Montgomery announced the addition of hospital-based hospice care to provide patients and families with additional care options that best meet their needs and desires.
At MedStar Montgomery Medical Center individuals receive care within a comfortable, private setting to preserve dignity for themselves and their loved ones. Montgomery Hospice, Inc.'s care providers work alongside MedStar Montgomery's providers to create a personalized, acute-care plan, which includes complementary therapies—such as aromatherapy, massage, art and music therapy, and animal companionship.
Importantly, Montgomery Hospice, Inc. offers multi-cultural resources focused on cultural empathy and competency—honoring all beliefs and adapting to the unique needs of the various communities served. Emotional and spiritual support is continuously provided by licensed therapists and chaplains.
