Meller Custom Sapphire Optics can be fabricated as lenses, windows, domes, prisms, cubes, and cylinders and can include features such as drilled holes, slots, wedges, stepped edges, and elliptical edge shaping. Ideally suited for protecting vision systems used all types of RPAs, UAVs, and drones, sapphire is well known as an optically clear and robust material that can withstand most chemicals, fast moving sand, and salt water.
Featuring 9 Mohs hardness, Meller Custom Sapphire optics are manufactured in the USA and the firm has an in-house goniometer that measures their crystalline structure in real-time. Meller is capable of achieving 20th wave flatness, less than 2 Angstroms surface roughness, less than 5 arc/sec parallelism, and 10-5 scratch-dig, depending upon the part's configuration. Transmission is from the UV through 4.7 microns and parts conform to MIL-PRF-13830B.
