BOSTON, Sept. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The menswear market started buzzing about the return of corduroy toward the end of 2017. The '70s revival and renewed interest in workwear silhouettes helped shed the fabric's reputation as thick, heavyweight, and in a limited color palette, and now, corduroy can be found in fine-to-wide wales and in earthy-to-pastel hues across a spectrum of retailers. Taking the trend a step further, The Territory Ahead – a California-originating men's clothing brand – expanded its corduroy offerings for Fall/Winter 2019, covering a range of garments and fabrications.
Two long-time keystones anchor the collection. Mañana corduroy – in drawstring pant and hoodie forms – blends warmth with a relaxed feel, through thicker yet still soft 6-wale fabric. Rebelling against perceptions, Old Steamboat's corduroy – inspired by "The Horse That Couldn't Be Ridden" – surprisingly feels like a T-shirt, is easily layered, and comes in solid and plaid forms for button-fronts and vests.
Building upon this foundation, the FW19 collection dabbles with patterns. In tonal hues, the Paisley Nirvana Corduroy Shirt goes in a psychedelically retro direction. With the Confluence Southwest Printed Corduroy Shirt, a unique printing process adds an all-over geometric pattern while eliminating the typically stiff feel.
As well, cotton/spandex corduroy, in light to heavy weights, adds a touch more flexibility. This aspect, meant to improve range of motion, proves to be extremely versatile, and as such, The Territory Ahead utilizes it through a trucker jacket, pants, a blazer, and a buttoned popover.
With this collection, The Territory Ahead further introduces a hybrid fabric. Used for The Coolest Corduroy Shirt, this new material starts with a corduroy foundation and then incorporates a puckered seersucker texture for better airflow, blending substance with a greater degree of breathability.
"We built the collection on just the right balance of color and personality, and it's totally wearable for numerous outings," said Vice President of Design and Merchandising Randy Pyles. "I'm quite proud of our corduroy, because it's found nowhere else. Where else can you find great solids, plaids, printed patterns, and a variety of weights and styles?"
