MARLBOROUGH, Mass., Jan. 24, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Centria Healthcare, the nation's leading provider of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children with autism, recently announced its expansion of autism services into the MetroWest area of Boston through its affiliate, Applied Behavioral Associates LLC, a Centria Healthcare company, at a grand opening event on January 17th. Joining officials from Centria were: Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant; the President and CEO of the Marlborough Area Chamber of Commerce, Rob Schlacter; and City Councilor and former School Superintendent, Don Landers, among others representing the Autism community in Massachusetts.
Last month, Centria Healthcare acquired Applied Behavioral Associates, LLC, in Marlborough, Mass. The opening of this 1,300 sq. ft. center, located at 277 Main Street, Suite 305, Marlborough, MA 01752, affirms Centria's commitment to expanding access to quality treatment for children with autism in the region. The new center will serve up to 20 children in MetroWest, including Natick, Framingham, Southborough, Westborough, Northborough, Marlborough, and the eastern part of Worcester. The new center will add 15 new jobs in addition to the 30 professionals in the region who provide home-based care. The opening of this center expands their care to include center-based therapy.
"Once parents hear that their child has autism, they have a lot of questions and often don't know where to turn for answers," said Scott Barry, CEO of Centria Healthcare. "At Centria, our mission is to help every child living with autism to develop, pursue and achieve their own goals and dreams through high-quality ABA therapy and support. This starts with helping parents navigate complex insurance systems so that their child can receive services as quickly as possible."
One in 59 children in the U.S. have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), based on a new estimate released in 2018 by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This finding indicates the prevalence of autism is slightly higher than previously thought. As the prevalence rate of autism increases, so too has the need for ABA therapy, the only evidence-based therapy approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC. During ABA therapy, skills are broken down into small, easy-to-learn steps. Positive reinforcement is used to motivate the child, and data is continuously collected to measure the child's progress and modify their personalized treatment plan.
"ABA therapy is the single most effective treatment for children with ASD and the only treatment shown to lead to substantial, lasting improvements in the lives of children with autism," said James Macon, BCBA and Executive Clinical Director, for Centria. "Early detection, diagnosis, and interventions are crucial for achieving optimal outcomes."
"Centria anticipates hiring approximately 100 experienced staff to serve 100 more families by January 2020," said Barry. "This includes BCBAs, Behavior Technicians, and Client Service Managers, among others. With so many children in need of support, we are eager to take them off waitlists, and provide them with the resources and care that they need throughout the MetroWest-area."
