DALLAS, May 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "Hadn't he gotten on this course by following God's command to take vows seriously, and not to lie?" In Michael Ross' novel, the young main protagonist shares his struggles reconciling his honor and faith right in the middle of chaos in his own country. Across the Great Divide describes incidences during the Civil War and the lessons that today's readers can learn from them.
In this debut novel, author Michael Ross introduces Will, a fifteen-year-old boy who enlisted in the Confederate Army believing this is the way of God. This comes with the potential of facing his own father on the battlefield. The story that follows juxtaposes coming to terms with personal crises with the issue of national conflict during the Civil War.
It looks back to the days of the Civil War where 620,000 men perished. While it celebrates how far Americans have come since then, Across the Great Divide also aims to remind everyone of the lessons from the period while realizing that there is still more to accomplish. It addresses the mistreatment of slaves during those times, a stark reality brought to light by extant biographies, letters, and notes that narrated actual incidents that occurred in that period.
"Remember, God is the only one worth following—not a man, a state, or a country," Will's father in the book states. "God uses men to accomplish His aims. Make sure to follow Him and somehow we'll all come out well. Pray for us all."
Across the Great Divide is the fruit of Michael Ross' love for great stories and histories. Michael graduated from Rice University and Portland State University. Born in Lubbock, Texas, Michael has always shared his writing through short stories and technical articles. He is now a retired software engineer. He lives in Newton, Kansas with his wife of 38 years, three children and four grandchildren.
Across the Great Divide tackles a story pulled from history, incorporating faith and personal struggles that bring out painful emotions born of being lost, broken, and finding it hard to fit in. The book unravels how God provides healing in time and how one must continue to look for Him.
Across the Great Divide: Clouds of War Book 1 is published in Elm Hill, a division of HarperCollins Christian Publishing. The book is available in paperback, hardbound and e-book versions.
