Diamondback Drugs CEO and Founder, Michael Blaire, Appointed to Arizona Board of Pharmacy
Scottsdale, Arizona (PRWEB) April 07, 2015 -- Diamondback Drugs is pleased to announce the recent appointment of CEO and Founder, Michael Blaire, to the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy. Appointed by the Governor of Arizona on Monday, March 23, Blaire took up his new role on the board as one of five pharmacists (with 1 technician and 2 members of the public rounding out the group), and began meetings just two days later.
With several decades of experience in the pharmacy profession, including specialization in the fields of veterinary pharmacy and compounding, Blaire’s addition to the board is expected to be a valuable one in the coming years.
More About the Arizona Board of Pharmacy
The Arizona Board of Pharmacy is tasked with protecting the public health and safety through the regulation of the practice of pharmacy. The board is also tasked with regulating distribution, sales and storage of prescription medications, devices and non-prescription drugs. Appointees to the board serve five-year commitments, and members can be reappointed after the term.
What Blaire’s Appointment Brings to the AZ Board of Pharmacy
While there is currently a pharmacist who is familiar with prescription compounding on the board, Blaire is the first pharmacist to sit on the board with experience in both compounding and the veterinary industry.
According to Blaire, “There is a lot of change in the air regarding the pharmacy profession, especially in the areas of therapy management, insurance, compounding, patient access, and more.” Because veterinary pharmacy is very different from the human medical model, there are aspects of veterinary pharmacy that will need to be addressed by the board, in order to stay aligned with changing federal policy. “It is my desire to help the board craft sensible policies that will promote the public safety, while protecting public access to all the medications that they need,” Blaire noted.
Blaire has said that working with vets and pet owners as the Founder and CEO of Diamondback Drugs has been a unique and rewarding experience, and he will continue his role as CEO of Diamondback Drugs.
About Michael Blaire, Founder and CEO of Diamondback Drugs
Born and raised in New York, Blaire graduated from St. Johns University College of Pharmacy in 1983. Blaire has been involved in retail pharmacy for literally his entire life, as he started working in a pharmacy when he was only 11 years old. He owned several stores in New York in the early 80s and 90s, and later worked for Walgreen’s in the 90’s when he first moved to Arizona. He has been married for 30 years and has raised four children.
Blaire’s affiliations to the pharmacy profession include: Former treasurer and current Chairman of the Political Action Committee of the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists; Member of the National Community Pharmacy Association; Member of the American Pharmacists Association; Member and former Chairman of the PAC for the AZ Pharmacy Alliance.
