Recent release "Welcome Sky Soldiers: Letters Home from Vietnam" from Page Publishing author Mike Walker is a compelling work that shares the letters he had sent home during his time in Vietnam. With the help of his oldest granddaughter, Sierra, Mike reproduced the letters in chronological order.
WICHITA, Kan., June 29, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Mike Walker, who was born in a small town in south-central Missouri, has completed his new book "Welcome Sky Soldiers: Letters Home from Vietnam": a gripping and potent collection of letters written by the author during his time in Vietnam. The letters are published with all the grammatical errors, misspellings, and fractured sentences kept as they were originally written, often amid harsh jungle conditions, under duress with a pencil, and often on wet paper. Mike felt this would help convey, somewhat, the terrible conditions he and his fellow members of the "herd" were constantly facing.
Author Mike Walker volunteered for the draft and, after entering the military, volunteered for airborne training and became a regular member of the Army, not a draftee, as all paratroopers are volunteers. He was stationed in Germany with the Eighth Airborne Mechanized Infantry Division. Not wanting to miss the opportunity of experiencing war, Mike then volunteered for Vietnam. After a small leave at home, he then traveled to South Vietnam. After returning from the war, Mike became a proud graduate of Wichita State University and a small business owner. He and his wife, Cheryl, raised three boys and were blessed with eight wonderful grandchildren. Almost fifty years after the Vietnam experience, Mike wanted to share his experiences in writing.
Under each reproduced letter, Mike shares happenings during that time—a diary of sorts. He also decided he would not spend much time with the blood and guts but devote most of the work to everyday goings-on, sharing both the funny and the serious.
Published by Page Publishing, Mike Walker's captivating work begins with his time spent in West Germany before moving on to South Vietnam.
