NEW YORK (PRWEB) August 09, 2021
Mission Investors Exchange (MIE), the leading impact investing network for foundations, has named Nicholas Almeida as Chief Operating Officer.
Partnering with the MIE team and its diverse philanthropic membership base, Mr. Almeida will help develop and implement the strategies and systems to support MIE’s growing leadership role in the impact investing field. He will help manage a range of functions, including strategy, knowledge and communications, talent, and finance and operations. He will also support MIE’s continued work to deepen its internal and external commitments to racial equity.
“Nick joins MIE at a critical point in the impact investing movement as philanthropy and its partners look to deploy more capital toward the critical social and environmental challenges of our time. Nick’s unique combination of impact investing and policy experience gives him the ability to effectively partner across the public, private, and philanthropic sectors to help catalyze meaningful change,” said MIE President and CEO Matt Onek.
“Throughout my career, I have seen first-hand the pressing social and environmental challenges facing communities, from the need to increase educational access, to expand affordable housing, and to address our growing climate crisis. My work has focused on finding place-based solutions to address these challenges—advancing innovative efforts for meaningful change. I am excited to leverage my experience and help MIE inspire its network to build a more active and impactful impact investing field,” said Mr. Almeida.
Most recently, Mr. Almeida served as a senior advisor to the Mayor of San Jose where he led strategic partnerships and social finance efforts with corporations and foundations; developed and advanced service initiatives as the City’s first-ever Chief Service Officer; and led the development and implementation of the Mayor’s priorities for San Jose’s $4.5 billion annual budget as his Budget Director. While there he also helped create and fund the city’s first Office of Racial Equity through the budget process.
Prior to working with the City of San Jose, Mr. Almeida was a director at Tides where he led strategy and developed new impacting investing products for individuals, family offices, and foundations. Earlier in his career, he served as an auditor for the State of California and held roles in public finance, management consulting, and program evaluation.
Mr. Almeida is also the co-founder of an impact investing firm where he facilitated individual and institutional investments in startups and community development projects. A long-time advisor to social impact startups, he currently teaches social entrepreneurship as an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco School of Management.
Mr. Almeida graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and a master’s degree in Sociology. He is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Mr. Almeida will report directly to MIE’s CEO.
