NEW YORK, Jan. 28, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Mitsui Fudosan America (MFA) is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by Elisabeth Condon in the 527 Madison Avenue lobby gallery through May 10. Located at 54th Street and Madison Avenue, the show is open to the public 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The exhibition features four of Condon's signature multilayered paintings that combine imagery from Yuan Dynasty scrolls, vintage wallpapers, post-war abstraction and glam rock. Carefully poured abstract areas are superimposed upon lush renderings of birds and flowers, a motif referencing classical Chinese painting techniques Condon learned during numerous residencies in China.
Core to her work, Condon balances controlled figuration and gestural abstraction, resulting in vibrant compositions that draw the viewer in to explore every shape, color and low. Her pieces are at the same time exuberant but peaceful, imbued with movement but also creating a quiet stillness.
Condon holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts from the Otis College of Art and Design and a master's degree in fine arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has received numerous awards, including the 2018 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant, the 2015 PULSE New York Prize, and a 2007 Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, among others. Her work is held in the permanent collections of Pérez Art Museum Miami, Tampa Museum of Art, United States Foundation of Art in Embassies Program in Beijing, and JPMorgan Chase. She currently lives and works in New York.
"This is the fifth year of 527 Madison Avenue's rotating exhibit that showcases noteworthy emerging and mid-career artists, and it has become a favorite feature among our tenants and visitors," said Keith Purcell, MFA vice president of leasing and asset management. "We look forward to the warm reception from Ms. Condon's dynamic pieces."
Purcell works with art consultant Jay Grimm, the property's leasing agents James Frederick and Peter Occhi of Cushman & Wakefield, and Hines property manager Chris Linville, to select exhibitions for the program.
527 Madison Avenue is a boutique commercial office building located at the corner of 54th Street and Madison Avenue in New York City.
