MobileDemand Donates 300 Rugged iPad Cases to The County of Los Angeles, Assisting Isolated COVID-19 Patients to Visit Virtually with Friends, Family, and Medical Staff
The much-needed rugged cases for iPad will be provided to those in isolation and will assist staff with patient care.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, May 11, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- MobileDemand is pleased to announce the donation of 300 rugged iPad cases to The County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services (DHS). The donation is through a partnership with the Annenberg Foundation, Brilliant Corners and MobileDemand. The 300 iPads and rugged iPad cases will be used in DHS hospitals, including Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, to facilitate patient-family and patient-medical staff communication during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led the DHS hospitals to limit patient visiting by family and loved ones to prevent exposure and the spread of disease, as have hospitals across the country. While there are some exceptions, such as for the birth of a child or death of a patient, visitation is not being permitted for the vast majority of patients and not at all for COVID-19 patients.
MobileDemand's Mobile Patient Virtual Presence Tablet (VPT) solution personalizes patient care, reduces front-line medical staff exposure from illness, and reduces PPE use. The healthcare iPad 10.2" cases are designed to protect against damage if dropped. The case comes with an adjustable easel attached to the back, providing effortless viewing for patients who are too weak to hold an iPad and freeing healthcare staff from having to hold the tablet for patients. Additionally, the case is designed to be easily mounted to mobile carts, which can be rolled into an isolated patient's room.
"The engagement of loved ones during hospitalization has been shown to improve clinical outcomes," said DHS Director, Dr. Christina Ghaly. "Clinical staff identified a role for virtual visiting through technology in order to facilitate this family involvement. The generous donations by the Annenberg Foundation and MobileDemand will help support this critical element of our patients' care."
While social distancing has been successful in flattening the curve of the COVID-19 surge in Los Angeles County, it is anticipated that this surge will continue for several months. With this gift, physicians and nurses will be able to place an iPad in the room of isolated COVID and other critically ill patients for the duration of the admission and reduce potential exposure and use of personal protective equipment going in and out of the room.
"We are incredibly thankful to have the opportunity to help patients connect with loved ones, reduce COVID-19 exposure occurrences of front-line medical staff, while improving productivity with our iPad cases," said MobileDemand President, Matt Miller. "In these trying times it's important that we support those impacted by this pandemic and we thank everyone involved in this worthy effort."
