Mod Mom Furniture recently announced the introduction of its new ready-to-assemble products to its existing line of American-made, eco-friendly, custom-crafted, modern-designed children’s furniture.
The new product offerings—the AJ Toy Box and Just Plain Squares—features Mod Mom’s founder Kiersten Hathcock’s signature mid-century mod design, in an easily assembled format of pre-cut 100% PureBond zero-formaldahyde plywood.
“We have been searching for an affordable alternative to our heirloom children’s toy and storage boxes without sacrificing the quality of our line,” explains Hathcock, who started Mod Mom from her Los Angeles garage in 2007, producing the first 500 toy boxes by hand. Since then, her business has grown through an appearance on ABC’s Shark Tank, extensive social media, and an established retail and internet presence with high-end retailers such as All Modern, Modern Nursery and Sprout. The line became so popular, Hathcock hired L & J Woodworking an Amish manufacturer in Ohio to handcraft her designs. Hathcock admits it’s a challenge to keep prices down on her elite brand and maintain the quality of her product. “We are competing with American companies who manufacture overseas for a fourth of the cost. We feel very lucky to be able to partner with Spiceland Wood Products, a family owned, high tech wood manufacturer in Indiana, to produce our ready-to-assemble designs. These new products will allow a lower price point for those who want stylish home storage that is eco-friendly and US made.”
Rob Davis, owner of Spiceland, confirms that their new partnership with Mod Mom will further enable their client base to purchase high quality, ready-to-assemble wood furniture at a reasonable price. “Each of these characteristics is vitally important to the future of the American furniture industry,” says Davis.
Both ready-to-assemble toy and storage boxes will be sold exclusively on-line at ModMomFurniture.com in the $200.00 range and will be ready to ship in late July 2013.
