MODSIM World to Explore Future Promise of Modeling and Simulation
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) April 14, 2014 -- Modeling and simulation technology is revolutionizing every aspect of our lives--how we plan, learn, manufacture, predict and even think. This exciting and pervasive world will be on full display at MODSIM
World 2014, a multi-disciplinary event that is unique in its promise to increase knowledge and enhance best practices among all users of modeling and simulation. Scheduled for April 15-17, 2014, in Hampton, Virginia, MODSIM will unite leaders from government, industry and academia to exchange knowledge across key practice areas such as education, training, science and engineering, entertainment, media, analytics and decision-making, healthcare, manufacturing and energy.
A key feature of MODSIM 2014 will be an event titled "Branding a Region--Building an Economy." Key stakeholders, including representatives from industry, academia and the various economic development agencies in the Hampton Roads area, will meet to discuss which technologies and capabilities can be leveraged to establish the region as a center of technological excellence. Areas to be explored will include, but not be limited to, modeling and simulation, unmanned aerial systems, cyber security, medical/healthcare device and software development, workforce development and talent attraction.
The event will take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 4:00-5:30 PM at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, the site of the overall MODSIM event. With reduced military presence and dramatically lower defense spending throughout the Hampton Roads region, it is imperative that alternate civilian applications be explored to fully capitalize on the region's technological expertise going forward. This meeting is expected to establish the groundwork for a systematic examination as to how this can be accomplished.
Also highlighting MODSIM 2014 will be a panel discussion of an FAA-mandated competition on how best to open American skies to unmanned aerial vehicles. One of the sites selected for testing and evaluation of required norms for entry into the national airspace system (NAS) is the mid-Atlantic. At MODSIM, a blue ribbon panel consisting of representatives of the mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership (MAAP), NASA (Wallops Island) and the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC), will discuss modeling the airworthiness of candidate UAS vehicles as well as prospects for producing a virtual model of the National Airspace system to identify key issues regarding the safe introduction of unmanned vehicles into daily use.
Another exciting aspect of MODSIM World 2014 will be an entrepreneur competition, a first of its kind platform for innovative start up ideas in the modeling and simulation field. Individuals, small teams and existing businesses whose modeling and simulation-based product or service has the potential to grow to
significant size and value may compete.
