Monster Energy congratulates Connor Fearon on taking third place in the Elite Men division at the 2023 UCI Mountain Bike Enduro World Cup at Maydena Bike Park in Australia.
MAYDENA, Australia, March 30, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Starting the season with a podium! Monster Energy congratulates Connor Fearon on taking third place in the Elite Men division at the 2023 UCI Mountain Bike Enduro World Cup at Maydena Bike Park in Australia. In the first event of the 2023 downhill mountain bike racing season, the 29-year-old from Adelaide collected important ranking points with a podium finish. Fearon's Monster Energy teammate Troy Brosnan lands in fifth place in the season opener.
From March 25-26, 2023, the world's best downhill MTB racers descended on the legendary Maydena Bike Park in Tasmania. Opened in 2018, Maydena Bike Park was founded by Simon French and features world-class trails and two uplift services.
For the year's first UCI Mountain Bike Enduro World Cup, the course was dried by three days of sunlight for pristine track conditions. At elevations up to 2400 feet, the track in the Tasmanian jungle is revered for its blend of steep segments and technical sections.
Monster Energy's Fearon dropped into the course as a podium favorite after clinching his career-first AusCycling Mountain Bike National Championship title on this same track in 2022.
The six-stage race saw riders cover over 33 miles and climb more than 3,600 feet while descending almost 9,000 feet through the Tasmanian woods.
The action started with Australia's Daniel Booker taking the first stage but faced heat from Fearon and Luke Meier-Smith. When the dust settled, Fearon blazed through the course in 29:14.450 for third place in front of a high-energy crowd. Fearon was part of an All-Australian podium, with Booker in second and Meier-Smith in first place with 28:55.210.
"I'm so happy to land on the podium of the opening round of the Enduro World Cup with a third place. The tracks and conditions were amazing for racing, and I was really happy with my consistent riding and stage results," said Fearon upon taking third place.
Speaking on the race, Fearon said: "It was a battle all day long with tight times, and everything came down to the final ten-minute stage for those spots on the podium. To be able to pull off a podium on home soil feels amazing, and I'm looking forward to next week for round two in Derby!"
Thanks to UCI and Maydena Bike Park for putting on a world-class event.
Next on the Enduro World Series calendar, the world's best riders will remain in Tasmania to battle for points at Derby from March 31-April 2, 2023. Stay tuned!
