The competitive Men's Skateboard Park competition saw 18-year-old Kieran Woolley from Minnamurra, Australia, walk away with the gold medal on the strength of a dominant performance. He was joined on the podium by 22-year-old Brazilian team rider Luiz Francisco in bronze medal position. In the new Skateboard Real Street Best Trick format, 28-year-old Monster Energy team rider Matt Berger from Kamloops, Canada, claimed the bronze medal with an innovative handrail trick.
Across five days of competitions at X Games 2022, the Monster Energy team claimed a total of eighteen medals (5 gold, 9 silver, 4 bronze).
Presented by Monster Energy as the official energy drink partner of X Games, the 65th edition of X Games was contested with no spectators in attendance and broadcast live to global audiences. For five action-packed days, viewers from across the globe witnessed X Games history written by the world elite in BMX, Moto X, and Skateboarding. More than 110 athletes from 14 countries are competing for a total of 57 medals across 19 medal disciplines.
During X Games 2022, more than 15 hours of the best X Games 2022 competitions aired on ESPN, ABC and ESPN2, as well as ESPN+ and the ESPN App. All competitions also streamed live on ESPN+ and @XGames YouTube in the United States. Across the globe, X Games content was presented through international syndication partners.
Here's how Day 5 at X Games 2022 unfolded for team Monster Energy:
Men's Skateboard Park: Monster Energy's Kieran Woolley Takes the Victory, Luiz Francisco Bronze
In Sunday's Men's Skateboard Park competition, nine of the world's leading vertical skateboarders took on the expansive concrete bowl course inside the California Training Facility (CA|TF). In a 36-minute jam session, winners were decided based on trick difficulty, style, and coverage of the entire course.
As the session heated up, one rider stole the spotlight with larger than life tricks and incredible consistency: Monster Energy's 18-year-old Kieran Woolley from Minnamurra, Australia, dropped into the event fresh off taking silver at X Games Chiba 2022 and winning the bowl contest at the Copenhagen Open this summer.
On his third run of the final, Woolley put down the highest-scoring run of the final. Starting off with a massive kickflip varial Indy air over the massive gap from the deep end all the way into the vert extension, he followed up with a huge frontside boneless in the deep end, backside 5-0 transfer over the spine, backside 540 in the deep end, kickflip Indy into the wall ride, backside air disaster, alley-oop backside disaster the hip and a technical frontside invert revert in the deep end secured the win for Woolley, his first X Games gold medal.

Woolley was joined on the podium by Brazilian team rider Luiz Francisco, who was also celebrating his 22nd birthday on Sunday. As a gift to himself and the fan, the skilled bowl skater put on a master class in creative air transfers and kickflip variations. Highlights such as kickflip Indy varial transfer into the bank, frontside Smith grind to tailslide into the corner, backside Smith grind the deep end, kickflip Indy body varial over the hip, kickflip Indy into the spine, kickflip backside disaster on the wall ride and a near-make double kickflip melon over the volcano earned Francisco the bronze medal.
Skateboard Real Street Best Trick: Monster Energy's Matt Berger Claims Bronze in New Contest Format
For something completely new, the Skateboard Real Street Best Trick event was contested and filmed during X Games 2022 at a storied street spot: The iconic "Brooklyn" ten-stair rail in San Diego, California, served as the backdrop for a 30-minute session featuring eight invited riders.
Each rider received several attempts to land a technical handrail trick on the spot known from countless videos. Later, X Games judges reviewed the footage and crowned winners, announced in the ABC live broadcast from X Games 2022 on July 2022.
When the final verdict arrived, the bronze medal went to 28-year-old Monster Energy team rider Matt Berger from Kamloops, Canada. Known for his ability to send technical street tricks down burly spots, Berger hit the ten-stair rail with a video part-level frontside bluntslide kickflip fakie for third place.
This marks Berger's second X Games medal. At X Games 2021, Berger already claimed the silver medal in the Real Street video competition and represented Canada at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Also making his mark in the competition, newly minted Monster Energy team rider Braden Hoban sent a kickflip frontside lipslide and kickflip frontside bluntside to fakie down the rail. Japanese young gun Daiki Ikeda from Tokyo landed a technical bigger flip front board in the new contest format to stoke the crowd in this exciting new showcase for genuine street skating.
