WHISTLER, British Columbia, Aug. 16, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Monster Energy congratulates Troy Brosnan (AUS) on his sixth consecutive title at the Crankworx Whistler Canadian Open DH race proving the 29-year-old is still one of the best in the elite field.
Taking place on the final weekend of Crankworx, the Canadian Open is one of the biggest races of the event, attracting elite downhill experts and fans worldwide.
The iconic Canadian Open track drops 304m as it plummets through the lower Fitzsimmons zone of the Whistler Bike Park and gives racers a taste of everything BC downhill has to offer with steep, technical corners. Moondust covers the singletrack that is littered with roots and more rock than dirt at this point and turns some sections of the racecourse to ice, even in the dry. With grip at a premium and sharp rocks as far as the eye can see, tire pressures and suspension setup become key to staying on the track and keeping the air in your tires.
Riding clean and consistent was Brosnan's strategy to maintain his winning streak and lock in his 6th gold. Elated with yet another win on the legendary course Brosnan clocked in a time of 2:39.028.
"Honestly, six in a row here is amazing; I couldn't ask for anything more," said Brosnan. The track was completely beat. Every year it's blown out and harder and harder to go fast on. At this point, there's more rock than dirt, and it's still one of the most iconic tracks. I'm frothing on how it's gone, and it's a good confidence boost before World Champs. This track is a great setup for World Champs. It's completely different from Les Gets, but it's got some steep sections.
Monster Energy's Mark Wallace (CAN) was 5th while Theo Erlangsen (RSA) landed in 22nd.
What's up next: Brosnan's mechanic Aaron now gets to pack up the race rig and get it shined up and ready for World Championships in Les Gets, France in just over one week's time as Brosnan attempts to bring home his third set of the coveted rainbow stripes and another World title
