Monster Energy’s Danny Hart (GBR) Takes Bronze at the UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland
LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland (PRWEB) September 12, 2018 -- Monster Energy’s Danny Hart (GBR) took home third place at the Mountain Bike World Championships, this past weekend in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
Hart did so on the heels of his World Cup overall series 2nd place, which he was awarded just two weeks ago in France.
With the fabled rainbow jersey waiting for the winner, the race format at Worlds is a one-day, winner takes all contest that pits the world’s best riders against each other for the title of UCI MTB Downhill World Champion.
The race course in Lenzerheide is steep and filled with large bermed bike park style corners all the way down, but incorporates several fresh, root filled wooded sections and large wooden drops. Adding to the difficulty is a layer of loose pebbles and dust across the entire track that makes traction fleeting at the best of times. Early rain during practice made some sections incredibly greasy until the late day sun finally managed to bake them dry.
After qualifying well, Hart was one of the favorites to win.
“I’d love to have won, but with quick racing, being .3 behind is great," said Hart. It was a tough week and there are a lot of things going on in my world right now so I was happy to put a good run down and end the season on a high note for myself, my team and my family. Looking forward to next season now with a year’s experience on my Saracen bike - 0.3 of a second is nothing!”
Monster Energy’s Troy Brosnan (AUS) finished in 9th after a few mistakes in his race run. Teammates Connor Fearon (AUS) landed in 15th after suffering a rear flat and Mark Wallace (CAN) landed in 18th. Amaury Pierron (FRA), the World Cup overall winner, crashed twice in his run and ended up in a disappointing 72nd after cruising down to the finish in one piece.
