LES GETS, France, Sept. 24, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Monster Energy's Loris Vergier (FRA), 23, was standing at the top of the podium once again this past weekend, at the P2V invitational in Les Gets, France. Inviting 50 of the world's best to compete on a brand-new track, the P2V invitational tested the rider's ability to adapt, and proved to be the perfect preparation for the World Champs coming up in October.
The young French racer has been flying high with incredible race results from this stilted competition calendar, with several podiums and top wins in the past few months. Based mostly on the French national competitions, the race schedule has seen an influx of global World Cup riders attending to compete during the altered 2020 season.
"This weekend we were in Les Gets for an unusual race," said Vergier. It was an invitational where 50 of the world's best riders come and ride together, timed, and over a new track."
A special race put together in the Alps region of Haute-Savoie in south-eastern France, the P2V crew wanted to assemble the world's best for a one-off competition that would test the riders and offer a chance to ride fresh tracks. The event enforced very strict social distancing and did not invite spectators.
From the outset, Loris looked strong throughout practice and maintained his positive attitude throughout the event.
"It was the best training and practice for World Champs because the track is 50% new for the World Championships and this track was almost brand new, which made it a good test to get a feel on a new track and set up my bike for it, said Vergier. I had two good runs and won the whole thing, so it was a good weekend!"
Next up, the world's best mountain bike athletes will meet at the World Championships in Leogang, Austria October 9-11. In the meantime, Vergier will take some time to practice and have a little downtime.
"Now it's time to train a little bit more and have a couple of days at home, while focusing on being healthy and fast for World Champs," said Vergier. I can't wait to have a good ride on the Leogang track and try to get a good result.
