Monster Energy’s Mitch Ropelato Continues His Domination at Crankworx Whistler and Wins Gold in Speed and Style
WHISTLER, Canada (PRWEB) August 18, 2019 -- Monster Energy’s Mitch Ropelato (USA) continues his domination at Crankworx Whistler and wins another gold medal in the Speed and Style event.
The Speed and Style event combines the speed of a dual slalom event with the style of two big air jumps. The bigger a trick the riders can do, the more time is deducted from your run. If a rider does no trick, they receive a time penalty, while tricks like no handers and one footers receive neither.
Ropelato only entered the event the evening before in order to gather more points in his quest to take home the win as the King of Crankworx to receive the large cash bonus given to the athlete who does performs well in multiple events.
In front of a packed house and under the lights, the young American took on a stacked field including both the best racers and freestyle athletes in the world and put on a clinic. Riding a full suspension bike, Ropelato spun 360s twice a run to get solid score tricks. While not the highest scoring trick available, when combined with his lightning fast speed through the berms it was enough to take home the win.
“The course really suited me, said Ropelato. I don’t know, I got lucky on a few! People slipped pedals and stuff. It was such a tough track, how are dudes sprinting this hard and doing super gnarly tricks? Good on them. It’s been awhile since I’ve done 360s on a mountain bike so it was a little nerve wracking!”
With just one event to go in the race for King, Ropelato can almost see his bank account getting larger. The Canadian Open downhill on Sunday will seal up the title after the final points tally post race.
