Monster Energy’s Mitch Ropelato Is Crowned the King of the Crankworx World Tour
WHISTLER, Canada (PRWEB) August 20, 2019 -- Monster Energy’s Mitch Ropelato (USA) wins the coveted King of Crankworx World Tour title for 2019. Ropelato also took first in the Garbanzo Downhill, won gold in Speed and Style, took first in the Dual Slalom event and took second in the Air DH during Crankworx Whistler.
Given to the most successful, well rounded rider on the Crankworx World Tour, the King takes home a $20,000 bonus check, as well as the privilege of running number plates all next year without a number - simply displaying King on them. The tour featured three stops this year; Rotorua, New Zealand; Innsbruck, Austria and finally Whistler, Canada. Points can be collected across 18 separate events across three stops and three continents and athlete must participate in at least two disciplines to take home the title of king.
Ropelato had only planned on participating in the downhill events this season after refocusing his training on World Cup downhill racing. However, a few side events like the Dual Slalom series and Air downhill series, put Mitch Firmly in the driver’s seat heading into the last few days of Crankworx Whistler and the young American took stock and entered every event he could, taking home multiple medals and a win for his efforts.
The 27 year-old American was over the moon with both the cash and the fact that he surprised not only the Crankworx family, but himself as well.
“This is pretty good. I can’t be any happier, but it was totally unexpected,” said Ropelato. I just kind of went with the flow and it ended up working out. I’m actually more excited about how the events went. They are events I have never even got podiums on and I won them! I was like sweet, alright this is sick.”
One of the most likeable riders on the circuit, Ropelato had more than a few of the local fans and industry members cheering him on all week.
Look for Ropelato to defend his Crankworx title in 2020 but not before tackling the next Enduro World Series in Northstar Tahoe this coming weekend.
