Monster Energy’s Troy Brosnan and Danny Hart Win Silver and Bronze at the Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in Mont Ste Anne, Canada
MONT-SAINTE-ANNE, Montreal (PRWEB) August 13, 2018 -- Monster Energy’s Troy Brosnan (AUS) and Danny Hart (GBR) take home silver and bronze at the Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in Mont-Ste-Anne, Canada.
Normally a beast of a track, weather decided to make things even more complicated this weekend as torrential thunderstorms rolled through just as the first practice session was getting under way. Wind and lightning caused gondola delays, and finally a complete cancellation of the practice day with most riders only getting in a single run. Incredibly high speed and treacherous at the best of times, this meant riders would go into qualifying the following day with minimal training, making remembering lines through the slick roots and rocks that North American east coast MTB scene is known for extremely challenging. The sun came out in time for qualifying and started to bake the high speed open sections and bring them back up to speed, but mud holes hid in the grass in sections, making for a dangerous situation if you rode into one not paying attention.
Brosnan had an especially tough week with the death of a close family member on his mind.
"The weekend was a tough one for me," said Brosnan. "With my granddad passing away on Thursday racing was not really on my mind. The storm on the first practice day was wild, but so much fun to ride in. Getting second on the day felt amazing, but I wanted that win so badly. All in all I had a great finish to the weekend and can’t wait for the next races.”
Hart is known for excelling when the conditions get sloppy and was happy with his placing.
"The weekend went well for me at Mont-Ste-Anne," said Hart. "I enjoyed the riding in the mud early on in practice and the track really developed into quite the beast. I’m happy to come away with a podium finish leading into the last couple of races for the season.”
With only one UCI World Cup remaining on the schedule in Le Bresse, France on August 25 -26, all thoughts start to turn to the World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland September 4-9 where winner takes all.
