Mugpods launches biodegradable pods and pouches - Bringing the World's First Nespresso compatible biodegradable hot chocolate and coffee pod range to the UK

BOLTON, England, June 10, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Bolton based Mugpods Ltd today announces the switch to biodegradable pods and pouches across its entire range of 6 coffees (including a new decaffeinated coffee), 5 hot chocolates and its childrens "poddies" sugar free milkshake. Previously being nominated for the Bolton & Bury's "startup business of the year" award and successfully bringing the World's first range of hot chocolate pods for use in original Nespresso machines to the UK.

In recent years many companies started manufacturing Nespresso compatible pods, allowing customers to enjoy a far greater variety of flavours and intensities at up to 50% less than the main Nespresso brand. Unfortunately some of these pods are being manufactured from non-recyclable plastics. This is hugely problematic as some pods can take up to 500 years to degrade, and when they do they tend to break up into tiny particles known as micro plastics which pollute our environment.

The new Nespresso compatible pods from mugpods are made using d2w oxo-biodegradable plastic. They're recyclable and biodegradable (but cannot be composted). They can either be thrown in the recycling bin with your ordinary plastics - or, if they end up in normal waste and landfill, they will break down at an accelerated rate of around 2 years. Rather than breaking into harmful micro plastics mentioned above, the pods evolve into material with a low molecule weight – creating a food source for natural organisms: bacteria and fungi. These organisms are known as 'decomposers', which release enzymes that break-down the compound.

The new pods are already available to purchase on the mugpods website and amazon. Biodegradable pods are currently only available across the entire hot chocolate range and two of the coffees. All other coffee pods are expected to have made the switch within the next few months as older stock is wound down.
