Multiple Sclerosis - How to Apply the McDonald Criteria Enduring Activities for Neurologists and Nurses
Global Academy for Medical Education is excited to present two online CME activities about applying the McDonald criteria across the United States.
AUSTIN, Texas, April 21, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Global Academy for Medical Education is excited to present two online CME activities about applying the McDonald criteria across the United States. This activity has been designed to address the educational needs of clinicians in multiple sclerosis (MS) centers or community neurology practices involved in the diagnosis of patients with multiple MS, including specialist physicians, primary care clinicians who manage and/or treat a high volume of neurological conditions, physician assistants (PAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), and nurses.
The accuracy and speed required to diagnose multiple sclerosis depends on the expertise of the clinician. Accurate interpretation of MRI findings is essential. A missed diagnosis – or misdiagnosis – leads to delays in offering appropriate therapy. In the first of 2 activities, experts discuss and interpret updates to the McDonald MS diagnostic criteria. The second offers case studies that challenge learners to evaluate the radiological and clinical evidence that supports – or does not support – their diagnosis. The faculty members for the online CME activity are Dr. Ilya Kister, Dr. Stephen Krieger, and Dr. Andrew J. Solomon.
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Describe the clinical features, imaging findings, and laboratory results that support and that do not support a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Detail the key components of the 2017 revisions to the McDonald criteria, and when and how those criteria should be employed in assessing patients for MS
- Outline and evaluation strategy for correctly diagnosing MS
