National Association for Music Education Receives Top ASAE Honors for Its Broader Minded: Think Beyond the Bubbles™ Program to Enhance Music Education
Reston, VA (PRWEB) August 04, 2014 -- ASAE honored NAfME’s power to enrich lives through its initiative to promote sequential, standards-based classroom music accessibility by emphasizing the need to educate the whole student, impacting academic achievement and shaping the way students understand themselves and the world around them.
“Congratulations to NAfME for benefitting not just their own industry or profession, but society at large,” said Paul Pomerantz, CAE, CEO of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and chair of the Power of A Awards Judging Committee. “This year, our committee had an exceptionally strong group of entries to consider, and it’s heartening to see so many organizations excelling in their work.”
With an interactive website, other media, background documents, and merchandise, the campaign provides music education advocates—teachers, students, parents, and supporters—necessary arguments for the intrinsic and extrinsic benefits of music education to use in making their cases for their programs. As such, through our Share Your Story application, Broader Minded has taken the stories of music education’s positive impact on more than 1,600 students, teachers, and parents and broadcast them to policymakers, education leaders, legislators, media, and other pertinent audiences. In that way the message of the necessity of music education accessibility has been amplified nationwide.
Since launching in February 2014, Broader Minded has garnered 1,350 new registrations, received twenty endorsements from like-minded organizations, been featured in media from NPR and NEA Today to Politico and the American Federation of Teachers. The campaign received congressional attention at the Rock and Roll Caucus briefing, “Music Matters,” on April 3, 2014, on Capitol Hill. The success of the first briefing led to a second briefing with the STEAM Caucus, “Music Education Powers STEAM” on June 26th where Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici spoke on the importance of including the arts in science, technology, engineering, and math focused STEM programs.
ASAE’s Power of A (association) Awards, the industry’s highest honor, recognize the association community’s valuable contributions on the local, national and global level.
