The National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Uma Gopaldass as a 2017-2018 inductee into its VIP Woman of the Year Circle. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in entrepreneurship. NAPW is the nation’s leading networking organization exclusively for professional women, boasting more than 850,000 members, a thriving eChapter and over 200 operating Local Chapters.
“I’m pleased to welcome Uma into this exceptional group of professional women,” said NAPW President Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”
For over 25 years, Uma Gopaldass’s career has spanned more than five continents and a number of key positions at global companies in the oil and gas industry, metals mining space and management consulting. Through hard work and perseverance, she has steadily climbed the corporate ladder, far surpassing her beginning role as an intern at a subsidiary of Schlumberger.
“From roles in the offshore oil field services, mining operations to management advisory, I have been tasked to decide and deploy on organizational changes that have massive impacts in all levels of company activities and people culture,” said Ms. Gopaldass.
After establishing Schlumberger’s Supply Services hub in Singapore, she was recruited by Accenture Management Consulting “to help build their strategy consulting practice in Singapore, with a focus to develop clientele for large-scale improvements and restructuring in Asia Pacific.” She eventually became North American Strategic Sr. Manager at Newmont Mining. “My responsibility was to build efficiency in their supply chain operations for their biggest mines in Northern Nevada,” she said. After three years in Nevada, Ms. Gopaldass took on a global strategic role at the company’s corporate headquarters in Denver.
Seven years later, Ms. Gopaldass made the bold step to entrepreneurship and founded Leading Lotus, a business strategy and direction advising firm with a “revolutionary approach that integrates data and logic with perception and intuition.” Lotus Focus is a methodology developed by Ms. Gopaldass that “allows decision makers to move from indecision to decision with the highest level of clarity and purpose.” Through its partnership with Diversity Training University, Leading Lotus will work to bring diversity and inclusion programs to companies.
“I have a unique ability to balance rationally driven analytics with intuitive knowledge,” Ms. Gopaldass said. “As a change champion, I have seen the devastating effects on employee happiness by decisions that were not sustainable or beneficial for company health. As the world moves toward a more youthful thought leadership, traditional management practices will prove to be inefficient for sustainability and growth. I bring this wisdom to the companies by guiding them through a mindful decision-making process.” Ms. Gopaldass’s future goals include writing a book about her professional experiences and funding educational programs. “A more distant goal is to appear on Ted Talks as a presenter,” she added.
