Narconon Freedom Center Observes Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
Albion, Michigan (PRWEB) February 28, 2014 -- This month, Narconon Freedom Center observed Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month with a campaign to encourage teens to educate themselves on the issues of teen dating violence to help them to avoid it in the future. Far too many teens experience dating violence every day, and they need help to start protecting themselves. Teen violence has a strong connection to teen drug use, as well, so it is up to anyone who works with teens to help bring awareness to this issue.
What is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month?
Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month is held every February to raise awareness over the issues that teens face in violent dating situations. With more education both for teens and authority figures such as teachers and parents, positive change can be made to stop current teen dating violence and prevent it from happening in the future. Raising awareness to make positive changes in the lives of teens everywhere is something the Narconon Freedom Center has worked for since its inception. After finding a link between drug use and teen violence, the center knew that it had to help out.
Statistics have shown that teen drug abuse and teen dating violence tend to follow almost identical trends. Usually teens that are in these situations do not have a safe person to communicate to which makes it difficult for them to make positive changes. It was found that teens who don’t have their parents around often tend to have more difficulty in these situations.
The Link Between Teen Drug Use and Teen Dating Abuse
In a recent study done by the Institute for Youth Development, a possible link between teen drug abuse and teen dating violence was found. The research provides insight into identifying certain causes and common factors that exist between the two. It’s important to find programs that can be effective in handling these situations and getting America’s youth to make healthy decisions.
Some of the reasons for teenagers beginning to use drugs can include teens finding themselves stressed out or are experiencing pressure from their friends to try drugs. It’s important to prevent these behaviors or handle them early on, because teens who try alcohol early are more likely to have more sexual partners as well as try even more addictive substances later in their lives. In addition to these factors, alcohol can cause irrational behavior associated with violence.
The strongest tie between teen drug use and teen dating abuse were found in teens who had generally antisocial behavior characteristics as opposed to teens who were more involved in clubs, groups and teams which forced them to be more social. Encouraging teens to be a part of more clubs as well as raising awareness may be a possible fix to both teen drug use and dating abuse.
What You Can Do About a Teen That is Already Addicted
