National Aviation Academy Alongside Other Aviation Advocates and Leaders Initiate July as General Aviation Month in Massachusetts
National Aviation Academy (NAA) and more than 80 aviation advocates and industry leaders gathered at Minute Man Air Field in Stow, MA, on June 25 to kick off July as General Aviation Month in Massachusetts. Guests included members of the state legislature, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Massachusetts Department of Transportations (MassDOT) Aeronautics Division, and the Massachusetts Airport Managers Association (MAMA).
CONCORD, Mass., July 14, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- National Aviation Academy (NAA), alongside more than 80 aviation advocates and industry leaders, gathered at Minute Man Air Field in Stow, MA, on June 25, 2021, to kick off July as General Aviation Month in Massachusetts. Guests included members of the state legislature, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Massachusetts Department of Transportations (MassDOT) Aeronautics Division, and the Massachusetts Airport Managers Association (MAMA), aviation industry leaders, and a wide array of aviation supporters.
Governor Charles Baker officially proclaimed July as General Aviation Month, recognizing Massachusett's 37 public use airports which collectively support 199,000 jobs and more than $24.7 Billion in annual economic impact, according to MassDOT. Massachusetts airports are home to public safety agencies, including the State Police Air Wing, Boston MedFlight, and aviation workforce training, including National Aviation Academy, Cape Cod Community College, and Bridgewater State University.
MassDOT Aeronautics Division Administrator, Dr. Jeffrey DeCarlo, began the ceremony by reading a proclamation issued by Governor Charles Baker, "General aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as the operation of our business and farms."
Governor Charles Baker additionally relayed that "the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports, and airport operators."
Among other positive impacts of public-use airports, the proclamation also acknowledges that "General Aviation improves the overall quality of life by supporting emergency and medical healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief along with investments in sustainable fuels and emerging technologies."
Dr. DeCarlo said that emerging technologies coming to general aviation, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), will be as profound as the jet age decades ago – and that Massachusetts will remain a leader in aerospace development.
Speakers highlighting the value of General Aviation included Senator Jamie Eldridge, Representatives Kate Hogan, and Dan Sena, FAA New England Deputy Administrator Kenneth Knopp, Massachusetts Business Aviation Administration (MBAA) President David Richter, Aircraft Owners and Private Pilots Association (AOPA) Representative Sean Collins, and local Select Board Chairpersons from Stow and Boxborough, Ellen Sturgis and Les Fox.
David Dinneen, Business Development Professional of Gale Associates, organized the exciting celebration of General Aviation, and Don McPherson, Owner and Manager of Minute Man Air Field, hosted. Lunch was sponsored by National Aviation Academy and served by the airport's award-winning, on-site restaurant, Nancy's Airfield Café.
