National Black McDonald’s Operators Association Announces Awarding of $5,000 Scholarships to Deserving HBCU Students
WASHINGTON (PRWEB) October 18, 2017 -- UNCF (United Negro College Fund, Inc.), the National Black McDonald’s Operators Association (NBMOA) and their partner, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, are proud to announce the funding and awarding of 12 $5,000 scholarships to deserving African American HBCU students pursuing degrees and careers in hospitality management. Over its seven-year partnership with UNCF, NBMOA has positively impacted the lives of 62 HBCU students through the NBMOA Dr Pepper Hospitality Scholars program; this year, it adds 12 more students to this tradition with the awarding of the scholarships for the 2017-18 academic year.
In strong support of the UNCF mission of getting minority students to and through college, the NBMOA Dr Pepper Hospitality Scholars Program is open to African American rising college freshmen, sophomores and juniors attending any accredited HBCU. These 12 deserving students were awarded scholarships based on a demonstrated financial need. These students were also required to have at least a 2.8 GPA and major in accounting, business, hospitality management, hotel management, marketing or restaurant management.
NBMOA was established in 1972 as a way to gather together a consortium of black leaders to collectively affect positive change within the communities in which they live and serve. Today, NBMOA is comprised of more than 300 franchisees in nearly all 50 states, many of whom are HBCU graduates. With the awarding of these 12 scholarships, NBMOA and UNCF are sending a strong message about the importance of African American representation within the hospitality industry and their hopes for a future that places black leaders at the helm of this ever-expanding industry.
