National Foundation for Infectious Diseases Awarded Accreditation with Commendation by Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education
Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) December 19, 2013 -- The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) announced today that it has been awarded Accreditation with Commendation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.
NFID has received Accreditation with Commendation for a six year term, through July 2019, by ACCME, and is among the top 25 percent of providers of CME in the United States. Providers who achieve Accreditation with Commendation have complied with all 22 ACCME criteria, including those that demonstrate the integration of continuing medical education into the process for improving professional practice, and building bridges with other stakeholders through collaboration and cooperation.
According to Marla Dalton, NFID executive director, “This achievement demonstrates that NFID is an organization committed to excellence and a change agent for the healthcare professionals it serves.”
ACCME accreditation seeks to assure the medical community and the public that NFID provides physicians with relevant, effective, practice-based CME that supports healthcare quality improvement in the United States.
ACCME employs a rigorous, multi-level process for evaluating institutions' CME programs according to the high accreditation standards adopted by all seven ACCME member organizations in the United States, including the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the US, Inc.
In announcing this accomplishment, Joseph A. Bocchini, Jr., MD, chair of the NFID Continuing Professional Education Committee and chair, Department of Pediatrics, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport, recognized “NFID’s commitment to partnership with multiple organizations and leadership in education for physicians, other healthcare professionals, and the public.”
