National Grid Ranks as Leader in Climate Change Data
(PRWEB) September 12, 2013 -- National Grid ranks as one of the leading companies in the world for the quality of its climate change data, according to the Carbon Disclosure Project, the world’s only global environmental disclosure system.
This outstanding achievement was announced today in the CDP Global 500 Climate Change Report 2013, which tracks how the world’s largest listed companies are acting in response to a changing climate.
National Grid has attained a leading position in CDP’s Global 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI). This annual index highlights those companies listed on the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (Global 500) that have displayed a strong approach to the disclosure of information regarding climate change. Companies are scored out of 100 on the standard of their submissions and National Grid received a score of 98.
High scores indicate the provision of robust climate data and a good understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company.
"Businesses reducing their carbon emissions, preserving natural resources and accurately reporting progress are an important part of the transition to a low carbon economy," said Tom King, President, National Grid U.S. "I'm pleased to see National Grid's progress recognized by our inclusion in the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index. We will not stop here - we are committed to safeguarding what belongs to future generations so we've set ourselves challenging targets for 2020 and 2050 and we're working hard to achieve them."
Paul Simpson, chief executive officer of CDP, added: “Companies that score highly enough to be included in the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index are responding to the call for greater corporate climate accountability. They have demonstrated leading practice for the measurement of greenhouse gas emissions and energy use and transparency of their climate change strategy.”
