Baucum is a former Special Assistant in the IRS Chief Counsel's Office in Washington, D.C. and Director of IRS Practice for a "Big Six" accounting firm. He is a noted counselor, speaker, and law professor, who represents clients in federal tax controversies, including high-stakes audits, IRS appeals and in court. He also represents clients with tax, business and estate planning needs, and works with real estate developers and investors in creating commercial real estate private equity investments, as well as structuring complex real estate like-kind exchanges. Mr. Baucum currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law, specializing in business and tax law at Southern Methodist University's Dedman School of Law and brings unique perspective on the inner workings of the IRS and Treasury. Jones has a national reputation for his expertise in tax controversy matters and in dealing with the IRS. He is Board Certified in Tax Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and is a sought-after author, speaker, and professor. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Jones served as a Trial Attorney with the Tax Division of the United States Department of Justice, and received substantial trial experience in the United States District Courts. He is a nationally recognized tax litigator, and represents clients in high-stake audit cases, criminal investigations, fraud penalties, IRS appeals, and tax planning controversies. He is currently the Director of the Federal Taxpayers Clinic at the SMU Dedman School of Law, where he has taught courses in Federal Tax Procedure, Criminal Tax Fraud, and Taxation of Property Disposition.
