Tourism Ireland’s Facebook app asked people to submit Facebook profile photos to be used for the art collage. They invited these tourists “to come to the city to find their image and to promote Derry-Londonderry’s status as the UK’s City of Culture 2013.” The wall stands at eighteen meters near the heart of the city. The Culture Wall features over 27,000 people’s photos. In the article, Niall Gibbons, Tourism Ireland’s chief executive, says, “This unique piece of wall art has been a great way to allow everyone near and far to take part in this year’s City of Culture celebrations and will provide a wonderful legacy of the year…and will encourage many more visitors to the city in 2014 and beyond.”
