Netgate, the leading provider of open-source security solutions, today announced the launch of the SG-1100 pfSense Security Gateway Appliance. The SG-1100 represents the latest addition to the company’s popular Arm®-based desktop appliances - and is the first to leverage GlobalScale / Marvell’s ESPRESSObin, a high performance 64-bit, dual core, low power consumption networking computing platform.

Priced at $159, the SG-1100 provides a 500% pfSense firewall performance improvement relative to its highly popular predecessor, the SG-1000. Consumer and business customers will quickly appreciate this product packs a serious punch with pfSense software, world-class price-performance, elegant packaging, and an unbeatable low price. For Small Office Home Office (SOHO), home lab, virtual office, small to medium business, corporate branch office, and remote worker applications - as well as Managed Service Providers and Managed Security Service Providers - the SG-1100 is the new gold standard for desktop, edge network, and IoT firewall applications with up to 1 Gbps throughput requirements.

The SG-1100 is underpinned by the powerful, yet energy efficient, 64-bit Marvell ARMADA® 3720 network processing system-on-chip (SoC), which fully leverages dual Cortex®-A53 Arm processor cores. The product also has 1 GB DDR4 RAM; 8 GB EMMC storage; and a Marvell 88E6141 networking switch which drives three GbE Ethernet (WAN/LAN/OPT) ports, one Mini PCIe slot, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port, one Micro USB port (console) and one SATA port.

Notably, the SG-1100 is Netgate’s first product equipped with a Microchip® CryptoAuthentication Device which assures customers they are running authentic, unaltered pfSense software. Developed for the modern world, where counterfeit or modified software - unbeknownst to the user - introduces security risks, Netgate is proud to be offering an additional safeguard for its customers.

Jim Thompson, CTO of Netgate, said “We hinted at an ESPRESSObin-based product a few months back, and the interest went high immediately. No surprise there as this SOC is high performance, compact, and low power - making it a perfect pairing for pfSense software. For businesses and consumers who value well-engineered secure networking products that are designed, built, packaged and supported under one roof, the SG-1100 will be tough to beat.”

The SG-1100 pfSense Security Gateway is now available directly from Netgate, or through our channel partners. The following partners have preordered stock: AVAD GmbH, Dadonet SAS, Griffin Networks, ITG Networks, Tri-Net Solutions, Viatitude, and Voleatech.
