Neuroinitiative Joins Forces with IBM to Fight Brain Disease with Cloud Computing
Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) June 18, 2015 -- Neuroinitiative today announced their acceptance into the IBM Global Entrepreneur Program to offer cloud-based neurosimulation software hosted on IBM Softlayer (http://www.softlayer.com). IBM is providing Neuroinitiative with cloud computing credits, access to over 40 Innovation Centers worldwide, business mentoring and connections to enterprise clients. IBM first announced its Global Entrepreneur program in Nov 2014. “This is an exciting announcement.” says Sandy Carter, IBM GM, of the program “It moves for innovation, it moves for growth and it showcases IBM’s commitment to this very important entrepreneur market.”
Neuroinitiative is focused on creating computerized models of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, which together affect over 50 million people worldwide. There is currently no cure for either disease, and treatments only serve to mask the symptoms of disease, rather than stop the progressive degeneration. "It’s time to harness this cutting edge technology and empower scientists to find better treatments and cures. The best treatment we have for Parkinson’s disease, Levodopa, was developed in the 1960s and to us, that’s simply not acceptable.” says Dr. Spring Behrouz, CEO of Neuroinitiative, LLC. Neuroinitiative's cloud based molecular simulation software allows neuroscientists to rapidly test hypotheses in a computer model of disease, without the need to program or procure supercomputer time.
Working with the Jacksonville-based business incubator PS27 Ventures, an IBM Global Entrepreneur Program preferred accelerator, has served to drive progress and growth in the Neuroinitiative program with access to investors and partnership programs. PS27 Ventures Managing Director Jim Stallings says "I was immediately impressed by the team and vision of Neuroinitiative. I'm confident that this group will have a major impact on pharmaceutical drug development."
