Nevada Headshot Photographer Alina Vincent Awarded National Recognition
Reno, NV (PRWEB) February 19, 2014 -- Headshot photographer Alina Vincent gained entry this week into an elite group of photographers. She's now Nevada's only official PH2 Associate Photographer, part of headshot guru Peter Hurley's international referral network.
"Peter does not give these nominations away easily. It's a huge honor to be included in this group of hand-picked headshot photographers," says Alina. Out of the almost 5,000 photographers from 102 countries in the coaching network, only 30 have been personally recommended by Peter to join this elite team.
"It took me about a year to get his stamp of approval," Alina adds. Alina was already an accomplished photographer when she joined Peter’s mentoring program. She'd been refining her technical and creative skills over eight years of professional photography, and had a roster of happy clients.
But Hurley found room for improvement. His one piece of feedback: some subjects looked too eager. "I had to get them looking more approachable and trustworthy," she says.
Hurley and the PH2 pros are recognized for capturing nuanced expressions. Alina says, "It's not just 'Say cheese,’ and there's a pretty picture. You have to have this look, this twinkle in your eyes, and it's not as easy as it seems to bring that out. It takes effort to get the natural smile."
During her sessions, which sometimes last an hour and a half or more, Alina and her clients review the shots several times so they can correct as they go along. "They tweak their clothes and hair; I tweak their expressions," she says. "Each picture tells a story. You just have to figure out what story you want to tell." Some people want to look happy and casual, others knowledgeable, confident or edgy.
Her clients say, "You captured the real me!" It helps that Alina knows first-hand how uncomfortable it can be posing for the camera.
"People try to hide what they don’t like, their teeth, or maybe their double chin. They try to turn away and it makes them look uncomfortable. Once they let go of that, start trusting the photographer, and relax, you get these amazing, natural pictures," Alina says. She credits her success to a blend of 10 percent technical skill ("Anyone can learn that!"), and 90 percent ability to put people at ease when they're on the spot.
Alina anticipates that her new status as a PH2 Associate will help her clients feel even more assured: "One of the best headshot photographers in the world considers my work to be top-notch. People know they can trust me. They get exactly what they're expecting."
Alina says she loves making everyone look their best—even those who might feel self conscious, having aged a few years or put on a few pounds since their last professional photo shoot. Plus, she jokes, "Friends don't let friends use old headshots."
