Alien in the Mirror: Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Glazer and Under the Skin by author Maureen Foster is a scene-by-scene and behind-the-scenes look at the director's 2014 cult classic.
LOS ANGELES, May 12, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Alien in the Mirror: Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Glazer and Under the Skin is now available on Audible, read by author Maureen Foster. Glazer's new film The Zone of Interest, shot on location in Auschwitz, Poland and based on the best seller by Martin Amis, will have its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, May 16-27.
Foster's book, also available in paperback, is a deep dive into Glazer's 2014 science fiction thriller, Under the Skin. Alien in the Mirror is a scene-by-scene and behind-the-scenes appreciation and exploration of the film, which is about an alien's growing fascination with Earthlings—and explores what it means to be human.
Film Critic Dan Jonze writes in Horrified Magazine "a steamy love letter in three acts, Maureen Foster's Alien in the Mirror is a glowing examination of Under The Skin…Foster sees Under The Skin very much as a woman's journey of self-discovery…and tells us Glazer's style is to 'withhold more than he gives,' playing on our sense of longing, and that fans of the film – like Foster herself – tend to prefer this longing rather than knowing."
Alien in the Mirror extensively quotes both director and star, and includes interviews conducted by the author with many of Under The Skin's key contributors, including screenwriter Walter Campbell and Co-Producer Alexander O'Neal. Foster also interviewed film editor Paul Watts and sound designer Johnnie Burn, both of whom worked on Glazer's new The Zone of Interest. Composer Mica Levi and Production Designer Chris Oddy also worked on both films, as did producer James Wilson.
Among the most highly anticipated films of 2023, The Zone of Interest appears 9 years after the release of Under The Skin, which hit theatres a decade after Glazer's previous film, Birth, starring Nicole Kidman.
The book includes chapters focused on the work of Scarlett Johansson and also on the film's source novel, Under the Skin by Michel Faber. A lengthy section is dedicated to detailed descriptions and anecdotes about the film's shooting in and around Glasgow, and in a forest in Scotland—where a blizzard forced the evacuation of cast and crew.
