SANTA MONICA, Calif., June 15, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Richard George Boudreau explores why prescription drugs in the United States of America cost so much and what can be done to tackle the crisis in his new book "Pharmaceutical Ethics and Health Care Access" (published by Archway Publishing).
Boudreau claims that though some pharmaceutical cost increases are justified, the problem is that overpriced drugs are impacting vulnerable populations, and U.S. society, as a whole. He explains to readers that controlling U.S. pharmaceutical pricing will require a concerted effort among legislators, pharmaceutical industry stakeholders, doctors, pharmacists and consumers. Only by understanding that higher pharmaceutical prices come from a variety of myriad and complex factors can help us take better control of what is happening.
"While the current and future presidents of the United States have provided plans and ideas to lower drug prices, not much can be done without specific, legislative enforcement, which is not likely to be coming any time soon," Boudreau says. "It doesn't have to be that way, however. Other countries have been able to initiate price controls, overseen by central authorities, to help keep costs in check."
