NEW YORK, Feb. 22, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A New York artist, Michael Dolen, shares original drawings and paintings that shine a light on the characters that work in and frequent the bars and pubs of East Midtown Manhattan in his new book "Bars of New York: A Personal Journey" (published by Archway Publishing).
Dolen has been an artist, mostly a painter, all his life. He set about doing these drawings for "Bars of New York" during the period of his late wife's severe illness. After his daily visiting of her at the hospital he sought some comfort through social contacts at neighborhood bars where he would also attempt to keep his drawing skills intact. The images are a series of color sketches in some of the bars on the Eastside of Manhattan, and involve a complex atmosphere of patrons, bartenders, waiters and physical décor.
"This is a book of drawings made in an effort to self-heal during a difficult time," Dolen says. "Hopefully the viewer will take away a glimpse of New York culture and a sense of optimistic healing through art and social contact."
"Bars of New York" is available for purchase online at the Archway link above, from Barnes & Noble and on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/Bars-New-York-Personal-Journey/dp/1665715405.
