IRVINE, Calif., July 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- California-based and other U.S. cybersecurity companies will gain new business opportunities in Southeast Asia Sept. 30–Oct. 4, 2019, as part of a trade mission to Singapore and Malaysia. This Southeast Asia Trade Mission will enhance U.S. cybersecurity companies' ability to market their products by providing access, insights, visibility, credibility and connections not otherwise available. Hosted by the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Cybersecurity Policy & Research Institute (CPRI) in partnership with the U.S. Commercial Service and the California State Trade Expansion Program (CA-STEP), the mission is sponsored in part through a grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The deadline for applications is Aug. 1, 2019.

Why Singapore and Malaysia?
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) represents the sixth largest economy in the world, encompassing 10 countries with a total population of 630 million. It had a digital economy of US$50 billion in 2018 and is projected to be US$200B in 2025.
A recent research report from Gartner said that Singapore is expected to spend SGD$1.15 billion (US$846.6 million) on information security in 2019.
The U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur reports that Malaysia plans to spend MYR2.6 billion (US$632 million) on cybersecurity with the majority on services (62 percent), including 19 percent each on software and hardware.
The U.S. Commercial service has helped California cybersecurity companies in the past build business in Singapore by facilitating engagement with C-level customers, coordinating collaborations with governmental agencies and participating in cybersecurity forums and workshops. The Fall 2019 Southeast Asia Trade Mission will extend such assistance to other companies that successfully apply for this program.

Criteria: To qualify, companies must be headquartered in the United States and must certify their products as having at least 51 percent U.S. content. The trade mission is open to companies involved in the cybersecurity products and services industries.
Deadline: Application deadline is Aug. 1, 2019.
Cost: $1,500 (for small qualifying companies, with fees subsidized by CA-STEP) or $3,310 for small companies without subsidies; $5,620 for medium-sized companies and $6,780 for large companies. Fees include one representative per company. Additional participants may join the trade mission for $725 each. Except as otherwise noted, expenses for travel, lodging, meals and incidentals will be the responsibility of each mission participant.
