ATLANTA, Jan. 7, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Interior Design maven Celeste Alexander will launch Curated Quarters, a resource for the interior design professionals in January 2019. The mission of the magazine is to celebrate the heritage and history of the often-underrepresented African American design community and their unique contributions to style and home décor. Alexander believes the contributions of African American designers has been overlooked for years in a niche industry that often celebrates the influences from everywhere but Africa and or continents with people of color.
"Curated Quarters will provide an educational journey for millennials on the historic giants of the past who paved the way for us to live the way we do today. The magazine offers an opportunity for urban designers to showcase beautiful homes done our way and others to learn about our culture from a different perspective," Alexander remarks.
Residential design has historically relied heavily on colonial and provincial influences associated with France, Italy and England. Alexander would like to see influences from Africa and other continents with people of color used throughout design theory. "Due to the cultural differences of the African American experience many of our contributions have been overlooked by the mainstream interior design community," Alexander says. "Curated quarters will provide an educational and historic look at the journey of African Americans and other people of color in the space called home."
The interior design industry continues to thrive economically with projections for 2019 coming in at 10.15 billion dollars according to a quote from the American Society of Interior Designers listed in February 2018 State of the Industry: Social Design at a Crossroads research study listed on http://www.interiorsandsources.com. "We see the interior design industry showing growth in terms of employment, service and sales over the next ten years. It's important that African American and designers of color are a part of this growth in a major way. Our immediate goal is to be a resource to potential clients, the interior design industry on ways to integrate African and African American artistic influence as a viable option in the marketplace.
